COMPANY PROFILE - Vidvox was founded in 1998 by visual artist and software
designer Johnny DeKam as a response to the growing need
for tools for real-time video performance. Since then, the
company has continued to grow as a collective of multimedia
artists and software developers designing new tools for
working with video in a more natural and intuitive way.
Traditionally time-based arts (ie music, dance, storytelling and
video) are commonly associated with improvisation, they occur
in real-time and are influenced by the energy of both the
performers and audience. Video however, has been set aside
as a locked medium with a technologically imposed finished
state that does not change. This creates a serious problem
when combining motion pictures with other time-based arts,
all elements are forced to conform to the predetermined
actions of the video. Vidvox solves this problem by developing
real-time solutions for content creation that allow for improvi-
sation with diverse media elements.
Vidvox solutions are used for live audiovisual performance,
motion graphics design, previsualization, multimedia presen-
tation and dynamic digital signage. In recent years, Vidvox
video software has been used in concert with The Beastie
Boys, Stereolab, Ladytron, Hexstatic, The Grateful Dead,
Ministry, The Light Surgeons, and by countless other musi-
cians, design firms, theater groups, and experimental
filmmakers around the world. Vidvox is based in the city of
Troy, located in the tech valley region of New York State.
