I use the Enttec ODE to send DMX signals from VDMX to light fixtures, but VDMX eventually loses the Artnet connection if my wifi is on. Has anyone had success using the Enttec ODE and TouchOSC at the same time? I've had to make all the controls on my iPad in TouchOSC send midi signals, and use a wired connection using their midi bridge app. It would be SO MUCH MORE CONVENIENT if I could get wireless OSC signals working while connected to the ODE box...
Hello Tryank! I have had some of those same issues, do not remember the specifics, but I did work out a solution that seems really solid.
I have an old Linksys wifi router. Connected via Ethernet cables to the wifi router are my Entec ODEs. (Have used up to 4 ODE's this way) I connect both Mac and Ipad to the router via wifi
This somehow insulates all of that and I dont get spuriously kicked off the Artnet train.
This also has the benefit of a Laptop style bag with all my wifi/DMX and ethernet together and pre-wired, takes about 10 seconds to plug it in and get on-air.
Three things to think about... This adds a TINY bit of latency to the whole shebang (as compared to AdHoc). Nothing that has ever bugged me, I regularly use the Lemur to "drum" the light intensities along with the rhythm of the band.
Static IP addresses for the Mac and Ipad are not mandatory, but ****** highly ***** recommended.
Make sure you have security turned on. People at shows are always lookin for free wifi.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Where do you think the latency stems from - iPad to Mac or Mac to Enttec? I do the "drum on the lights" thing to the music too, so latency is pretty important to me. Haven't tried this setup out yet though, will soon. Thanks JD!
Hey Tyrank! Am out o country so just seeing this...
I think it is just an extra data proccessing step, having the wireless router in the mix. (Miy workhorse router was also only $2 from a church garage sale, so not exactly U2 or Rush quality gear ; )
AD-hoc connections direct to the mac tend to be quicker, BUT - having said that, the router really adds very little, you will get accustomed to it within a minute or two... Just try it.
Is much less than the audio delay you are already dealing with if you have a FOH position 150 feet from the pa at a festival
One crazy thing we tried once that worked great was using Chamsys for ballyhoos, iris chases, mover fx etc. and sending the intensities from a Ipad running Lemur, controlling QLC+ Crazy to set up, but fun to play with against funk bands. Fud for thought Jd
