I'd like to have different layouts in VDMX5 loaded according to where I am in the timeline in Ableton. I'm very new to VDMX so forgive me if I'm not using proper terminology. By layout I mean a new set of video sources/data sources/effects. Even if this isn't possible, is there a way at least to change the video sources via Ableton?
Yup, you can do all kinds of crazy stuff to keep VDMX in sync with Ableton; there are a lot of ways to go about this and it may vary depending on your own personal workflow as to what would work best.
Here are a few random notes to help you get started: - You can use the Media Bin plugin to receive MIDI (or OSC) from Live (or Max4Live) to trigger different media to various layers. Disk based stuff you can drag in from the Finder, and you can add things like cameras, syphon, and built-in image generators from the Media Browser (cmd+3) window, or by right-clicking on an empty cell. - Within each Layer FX area, along the top, is a Section Preset bar which can be used to save and restore FX-chains. From the UI inspector window you can assign MIDI to trigger individual presets. - In the Workspace Inspector in the Presets tab you can create global presets – these save everything about your current window layout / what media is playing / your layer setup / etc in a snapshot that can be later restored. Each of these can be triggered by MIDI / OSC using the UI Inspector.
