Adding DMX to Quicktime files

Hi - I have several song lyric .mov files that I want to build into a pre-programmed light shows on a Macbook Pro. Do I need a plug-in? Should I use MIDI and have it point to DMX scenes? I want to make sure the programming I do is "attached" to the .mov files. Thanks!
