Ive been through alot with marrying applescript and bash with VDMX and finally understand how easy it is... so simple... I wanted to post here to save any code-first-timers (like myself) some time. This is likely all obvious to most, but it certainly would have saved me alot of time.
Ive built a painfully simple applesript plugin for VDMX with QC, download it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1zmybfij6yh4pvl/APPLESCRIPT.qtz?dl=0:
Its got a text field and a trigger button, and uses "ask" in QC to run it with a pulse for the trigger.
So simply open up the handy dandy "applescript editor" app in OSX and write / test your scripts, then when its ready just copy paste it directly into the plugin, label the plugin ...and duplicate if you've got more scripts to trigger.. label accordingly
you can also modify it to become a more individualized applescript trigger plugin... just disable the text ( string ) input source, and paste it in the applescript field of the "ask" module
BASH:
I used to use a very long and annoying applescript that essentially pulled up terminal window to run a bash and then switch foremost applications... not very efficient and buggy, then realized I was missing a very simple applescript command... "do shell script" ha'
So running a .sh bash script is as simple as pasting this into the attached applescript plugin, no other application even opens:
do shell script "/Users/filepath/scriptfilename.sh"
Applescript and bash are very useful for file management and in conjunction with VDMX's "sync contents with folder on disk" feature.
hope this helps someone.
