Hi all,
I have an electronic drum kit that is feeding midi to VDMX. I have a visual that is triggered every time the kick drum is hit. There are 4 variations of this visual. My goal is that each time the drummer hits the kick, it plays one of these 4 variations at random.
First, I tried creating 4 different clips and then set the Media Bin to randomly select which clip is loaded when the drummer hits the kick. The problem with this is that there is a slight amount of lag between the drummer hitting the kick and the clip playing. Another problem is that if the drummer plays eighth notes, VDMX isn't quick enough to load the next clip, resulting in the visuals skipping some of the hits.
A potential work around that I thought of was to create one movie clip that contains all 4 visuals sequentially. So I did that and then created individual markers for the start of each visual in the clip. When the drummer hits the kick, I want VDMX to start playing at one of the 4 markers at random. Then the playback should stop at another designated marker or after a specified duration of time.
I'm stuck at this last step. I am having a hard time figuring out how to get the playback to start at a different marker by random.
I am hoping that this solution will keep the visuals in sync when the drummer plays eighth notes.
I have no issues getting perfect sync when the kick drum triggers the playback slider. Each time he triggers the kick, it automatically starts playing at the beginning of the slider, perfectly in sync. The downside to this is that the visual is always the same every single time he hits the kick.
Sorry if this sounds complicated. Let me know if you need me to elaborate on anything. Any help is appreciated, thank you!
