I'm having a very odd midi problem with VDMX.
I'm using a Korg ES-1 electribe sampler. I have one VDMX project where I am triggering clips based on MIDI notes received from the ES-1. Everything works great. I can sequence clips no problem. Let's call this first project marsglitch. I made a new project and was trying to use midi notes to map to various other VDMX elements like buttons, etc... This is where I ran into problems in this new project, let's call it landscape, there is something bizarre happening. I was attempting to trigger the fwd button in the layer controls to be triggered by a midi note. ok. It worked, but then I realized that Every MIDI note sent was triggering the same button, then I realized that even control changes were triggering the same button. So this is odd. I opened up MIDI monitor and realized there were control values coming from the sampler that were triggering from every note/control element.
This is what MIDI monitor reported. This is in the 'landscape' project
From Port A Control 10 Non-Registered Parameter MSB 5
From Port A Control 10 Non-Registered Parameter LSB 107
From Port A Control 10 Data Entry (coarse) 0
From Port A Control 10 Non-Registered Parameter MSB 5
From Port A Control 10 Non-Registered Parameter LSB 108
From Port A Control 10 Data Entry (coarse) 0
From Port A Note On 10 C1 127
From Port A Note Off 10 C1 64
Now from what I understand, these control 10 elements are equipment specific controls for sending information, generally this is filtered out by the receiving end-I think. These messages would happen on every note or control parameter changed.
Can't see how to turn this off on the sampler. This is where it gets even more bizarre. I opened up 'marsglitch' and now suddenly theses messages are gone and the triggering is working perfectly.
I made a new project and the messages are back. Back in the 'landscape' project the messages are still there as well. the 'marsglitch' project still behaves normally. I'm not sending any MIDI to the sampler, just outputting from it into a midisport, then VDMX. I'm running the latest VDMX on an aluminum imac 24" with latest updates.
any thoughts? I was having fun with triggering, but now it is not so much fun.
thanks for any help. I can clarify if anyone needs more info.
thanks,
morgan
EDIT
**** I am just updating to say that I've tracked this behavior down to when trying to use a midi note to trigger a button. right after I detect midi on a button I get all the control messages. I must be doing something wrong with applying MIDI to a button.
