Real time reactive visuals

Hey.

So I am not a VJ. I have never used any software like resolume etc.. I am hoping to create a real time reactive projection using sensor input data. It is about time for me to pick a software and learn it, asap.

I have checked out VVVV a bit... and it seems like creating something quickly that also looks nice will be tough. I have a good few years of progrmming experience so I'm not afraid of that if it is an option. In my head the end project will be a 3-d projection mapped object that will react to various changes in the sensors using mostly outlines and fill colours of shapes.

At the moment I am more concerned with the data and sensors than the design. But I dont want to catch myself out later with whatever software I choose. If anyone has any experience with this or suggestions for software to use I would be very grateful for thoughts, links or ideas. Using windows.. and preferably free (I am a broke student)
