Admittedly I don't know a whole lot about codecs etc.
I used MPEGStreamclip to batch convert a few video files to the Hap Alpha codec, unscaled and interlaced scaling, at 100% quality.
The resulting files certainly are bigger, but the performance seems to be way down compared to before.
I originally was running the video files off an external USB hard drive and moved them onto the local HD, which had better results perhaps due to USB bottleneck. I processed the files to HAP and tried again off the local drive and the performance is just super choppy.
The setup involves a ton of layer-mapping, as I have up to 10 'screens' on stage, using up to 3 different content layers:
Stage Left:
Main
Side x 2
Circles x 2
Stage Right:
Main
Side x 2
Circles x 2
For this I am doing a lot of layer masking and layer-referencing in other layers' sources.
For my test last night though, I was only using 3 screens.. so it shouldn't really be a ton of render work?
Any thoughts?
