I like how VDMX5 incorporates open standard shaders and how plugins can be added with a little but of Quartz Composer programming (not that I understand it yet). I eagerly await Lumen's release.
I see parallels in the music/audio production world with Max of Live/MAX/MSP/Live and the VST and AU plugins industry. It is great that there is an industry standard (well, a few choices anyway) for effects plug-ins and instruments. I also like the (closed but very high quality) world of Universal Audio plugins where you have dedicated hardware doing the DSP, which again utilizes an open standard which the DAW/sequencer industry make use of.
Is there a linear video editor (like FCP, iMovie, Premiere) that can use plugins/shaders created with Quartz Composer or Jitter and the flexibility of VDMX5? Is there any type of video hardware that runs the DSP so the CPU does not have to? Is there an open standard for video plugins/synthesizers?
