I've not shared that many clips online over the last few years as I think its important to see Live AV in the right context... but as I keep on getting asked for a showreel I'm starting to pull some work together so here's a little taster of my VJ style and some basic tech details.

This is a Live AV mix using VDMX and the built-in movie recorder plugin for the output which is truly amazing (rocksteady 30fps at 1280x720)... nearly ready to ditch my Blackmagic ingest machine. The project uses 6 layers, geometry FX and 3 clocks for the timing (1 auto, 2 manual). The individual images are large, generally around the 3,000 to 4,000 pixels sq to allow for zooms and tracking, big images can be a problem but with careful optimisation all is good.
You will see the timing is out at the beginning as I adjust the clocks, the half and double rate buttons are mapped to MIDI and there's a range of tempo (BPM) presets for quick changes if the DJ takes a different direction.
There's a thing about this, in the old days of vinyl records particularly 12" you could spot the cover and know what was coming next and also the body language was easy to interpret... so you could tell when the tempo was going to change. Not the case with digital and laptop based DJs on occasions you have no idea whats coming next. In VDMX Waveclock does an amazing job of keeping track and was a 1000 times better than my old Redsound SoundBITE Micro (must donate that to Teemu) but you still need an override. Best timing ever... get yourself 2 beamers, a hippy and 2 table tennis bats to cut the beam of light as he/she gyrates
Enjoy.
Michael.
